Complete Bathroom Renovation & Modern Walk-In Shower Transformation
This bathroom underwent a complete transformation, taking it from an outdated and impractical space to a bright, modern and easy-to-maintain bathroom.
The existing bathroom featured dated wall tiles, an older accessible shower enclosure, pedestal basin, traditional radiator, ageing flooring and worn wall finishes. Our renovation focused on modernising the entire room while creating a cleaner layout, improved showering area and a much more contemporary finish.
The result is a fresh and stylish bathroom combining classic white metro tiles with dark detailing, modern sanitaryware and practical storage.
Before the Renovation
Before work began, the bathroom was showing clear signs of age and required a complete update.
The existing shower area included an older electric shower, grab rails and half-height shower screens. Small white tiles with blue decorative inserts covered parts of the walls, while other areas had older wallpaper and unfinished or worn surfaces. The bathroom also contained a pedestal basin with separate hot and cold taps, an older toilet, a standard panel radiator and grey flooring.
The combination of different finishes made the room feel dated and visually cluttered, so the aim was to create a much cleaner and more consistent design.
What we did for this project
- Complete bathroom strip-out and refurbishment – the dated sanitaryware, shower enclosure, and old finishes were removed to allow the room to be comprehensively modernised.
- Full-height wall tiling – white metro/subway tiles were installed throughout the bathroom in a traditional brick-bond pattern, with contrasting dark grout defining each tile and giving the room a crisp contemporary appearance.
- New walk-in shower area – the old half-height accessible shower enclosure was replaced with a spacious low-profile rectangular shower tray and clear glass screen, immediately opening up the room visually.
- Modern shower fittings – a contemporary mixer/bar shower with an adjustable handheld shower head and riser rail was installed, replacing the dated electric shower arrangement.
- New vanity unit and basin – the old pedestal basin was replaced by a modern dark-grey gloss vanity unit, providing valuable concealed storage while maintaining a compact footprint.
- Matt-black basin tap and accessories – black fittings were introduced to contrast with the white tiles and tie the overall design together.
- New WC – the older toilet was replaced with a cleaner, more contemporary close-coupled WC.
- Black heated towel rail – the standard white panel radiator was removed and replaced by a tall black ladder-style heated towel radiator, providing both heating and useful towel storage.
- New wood-effect flooring – the original grey floor finish was replaced with a warm wood-effect floor, adding texture and warmth against the white tiled walls.
- Improved bathroom lighting – recessed ceiling spotlights provide brighter and more evenly distributed lighting than the previous arrangement.
- Modern bathroom mirror – a simple rectangular wall-mounted mirror was installed above the vanity area.
- New bathroom accessories – contemporary black accessories, including the toilet-roll holder, complement the black tap and towel radiator.
Window detailing and tiling – the existing frosted window was retained while the surrounding wall and reveals were neatly incorporated into the new tiled finish. - Fresh ceiling and finishing work – the ceiling and surrounding finishes were refreshed to complete the clean, modern appearance.
