Japandi-Inspired Slatted Wood & Brushed Bronze Bathroom Renovation in Manchester

The original bathroom was dated and cluttered, featuring tired square white tiles, an electric shower unit with a vinyl curtain, exposed floor pipework, and an oversized radiator that restricted movement around the pedestal basin. The layout lacked dedicated storage, and the unfinished window reveal made the room feel uninviting. The client wanted a warm, spa-inspired transformation that maximized circulation, integrated practical storage, and delivered an upscale designer aesthetic.

Before the Renovation

The original bathroom had a separate bath and curved corner shower, white wall tiles with a decorative border, dark floor tiles, pedestal basin and standard radiator. The layout felt dated and used a lot of valuable floor space.

Planning & Design

For this renovation, the goal was to introduce natural textures and earth tones to achieve a clean Japandi-style aesthetic.

Material Palette: We paired large-format, soft greige concrete-effect porcelain tiles with a vertical fluted wood-effect feature panel behind the bath, accented by brushed bronze/antique brass fixtures.
Plumbing Reconfiguration: The outdated electric shower was removed and replaced with a concealed thermostatic mixer system feeding an overhead rain shower and separate bath-filler tap set.
Streamlined Walls: Exposed pipework around the basin and radiator was boxed in and tiled over to ensure clean, continuous floor-to-ceiling lines.

What we did for this project

Modern Shower Bath & Fluted Feature Wall

We installed a clean-edged acrylic straight bath paired with a hinged clear-glass bath screen framed in matching brushed bronze. The back wall was finished with textured vertical timber-effect slatted panels, creating an architectural focal point within the bathing area. Integrated corner shelving provides discreet storage for shower essentials.

Brushed Bronze Dual Thermostatic Shower System

A luxury square-profile rainfall showerhead, matching slimline handheld wand, and deck-mounted bath mixer taps were fitted in a rich brushed bronze finish.

Wall-Hung Natural Wood Vanity & Countertop Basin

To free up floor space and eliminate clutter, the old pedestal sink was replaced with a two-tier oak-effect vanity console. It features an open slatted storage shelf, soft-close drawers, and a smooth oval countertop vessel basin paired with a tall brushed bronze monobloc mixer tap.

Back-to-Wall WC & Retiled Window Reveal

A modern close-coupled toilet with concealed fittings and a soft-close seat was neatly positioned beneath the re-plastered, mitre-trimmed window reveal, providing a clean and symmetrical line of sight.

LED Touch-Sensor Demister Mirror

Above the wash area, we installed an oversized rectangular LED back-lit mirror with curved corners and built-in touch controls, providing crisp task illumination and ambient mood lighting.

Matching Bronze Heated Ladder Radiator

The old standard white panel radiator was replaced with a tall, color-matched bronze heated towel rail, positioned conveniently beside the door without interrupting circulation.

The Finished Result

By swapping dated white plastic fixtures and shower curtains for natural slatted wood textures, seamless large-format porcelain, and brushed bronze brassware, this compact room was transformed into an elegant, boutique sanctuary. The integrated vanity storage and clean glass screen maximize light and usable space throughout.
