Modern Grey & Matte Black Bathroom Renovation

The original bathroom featured small white wall tiles, an exposed wooden floor, a traditional pedestal basin, and an old electric shower setup over the bath. The upper walls were painted in a dated mustard yellow, and the layout felt cluttered with dated fixtures. Although functional, the finishes were worn and the overall design lacked cohesion and practical storage

Planning & Preparation

For this refurbishment, the main priority was to modernize the space completely while keeping the existing, functional layout. Rather than converting the space into a dedicated shower room, the bathtub was retained to maintain family functionality. We introduced a full-height tiling approach using large-format tiles to eliminate visual clutter, upgraded the vanity area to add essential storage, and selected a cohesive matte black hardware theme throughout.

What we did for this project

Black Marble Feature Wall

Large-format black marble-effect tiles were installed behind the bath and shower. The white veining creates a dramatic contrast against the lighter areas of the bathroom.

White Marble-Effect Walls & Floor

The remaining walls and floor were finished with large white marble-effect tiles, replacing the original small patterned tiles and creating a cleaner, more spacious appearance.

New Bath Installation

A new white bath with a softly curved end was fitted along the original bath wall, giving the room a more contemporary look while retaining a practical bathing area.

Brushed Gold Rainfall Shower

The old electric shower was replaced with a brushed gold rainfall shower system, including a large overhead shower and handheld attachment.

Compact Vanity & Basin

The pedestal basin was replaced with a white vanity unit and integrated basin, adding useful storage while keeping the footprint compact.

The Finished Result

The strongest feature of this renovation is the contrast between the dark marble shower wall and the lighter marble surroundings.

The black feature tiles give the bath area depth, while the white marble-effect flooring and walls prevent the room from feeling dark. Gold shower fittings, taps and the heated towel rail add warmth and make the overall design feel much more considered.

The finished bathroom now has a distinctive contemporary look while still keeping a practical bath-and-shower arrangement for everyday use.
