Sage Green & Concrete Walk-In Shower Renovation in Manchester

The original bathroom was trapped decades in the past, dominated by an outdated retro blue suite, pine tongue-and-groove wall cladding, high-level cistern pipework, and cold, patterned wall tiles. The space felt claustrophobic, dark, and poorly utilized[cite: 21, 27]. Our brief was to carry out a comprehensive strip-out and transform the narrow layout into a serene, contemporary walk-in shower room that pairs calming sage walls with warm wood and modern stone finishes[cite: 20, 21, 26].

Planning & Design

Converting a narrow, full-bath layout into an airy walk-in shower room required a strategic overhaul of both the plumbing and wall surfaces[cite: 20, 21].

Complete Strip-Out: We stripped away the entire blue suite, unboxed the old timber timber cladding, and removed the dated floor and wall tiling back to the bare structure.
Layout Reconfiguration: The unwieldy bathtub under the window was eliminated, allowing us to dedicate the rear alcove entirely to an expansive walk-in shower enclosure.
Color Palette & Contrast: Large-format stone-look porcelain tiles were specified for the wet zones and flooring, balanced by smooth matte sage green walls, fluted walnut joinery, and a blush pink metro tile splashback.

What we did for this project

Full-Width Sliding Door Shower Enclosure

We fitted a low-profile white rectangular shower tray across the entire rear window alcove, framed by a sleek chrome sliding glass door. The wet area was fully tanked and clad ceiling-high in large-format concrete-effect porcelain tiles, creating a light-filled showering space.

Thermostatic Dual Rainfall Shower System

A high-performance chrome thermostatic mixer shower was installed, complete with an overhead circular drench head, an adjustable secondary handheld wand, and a discreet wall extractor unit for optimal moisture ventilation.

Fluted Walnut Vanity & Blush Subway Splashback

Replacing the old pedestal basin, we installed a compact, wall-mounted dark walnut vanity unit featuring deep fluted soft-close drawers and an integrated ceramic basin with a polished chrome monobloc mixer tap. A neat splashback of vertically stacked blush-pink metro tiles was added for a touch of boutique color.

Back-to-Wall WC & Retiled Window Reveal

A modern close-coupled toilet with concealed fittings and a soft-close seat was neatly positioned beneath the re-plastered, mitre-trimmed window reveal, providing a clean and symmetrical line of sight.

Tri-View Mirrored Cabinet & Shaver Point

Above the vanity, a multi-door mirrored bathroom cabinet was fitted flush to provide clean, concealed eye-level storage, paired with an adjacent modern chrome dual-voltage shaver socket.

Close-Coupled Modern WC & Bidet Spray

The awkward retro toilet and exposed soil pipes were replaced with a streamlined close-coupled white WC with a dual-flush button, quiet soft-close seat, and an adjacent chrome hygiene bidet spray handset.

The Finished Result

The transformation from a tired, cluttered blue suite with pine cladding into an open, Scandinavian-inspired wet room is night and day. By replacing the bath with a dedicated alcove shower, brightening the room with serene sage green paintwork, and integrating textured walnut storage, this Manchester bathroom now offers a calm, functional, and contemporary retreat
