The original bathroom was dated and cluttered by awkward architectural steps, exposed boxed-in pipework, an electric shower unit, and basic half-height white tiles with decorative borders. The layout felt cramped and disconnected. The homeowner wanted to streamline the floor levels, eliminate unsightly surface boxing, and introduce a modern monochrome aesthetic accented with classic Victorian-inspired patterns and contemporary matt black brassware.
Our initial focus was correcting the disjointed floor levels and awkward steps that interrupted movement between the shower and toilet areas.
We replaced the open tray and basic screen with a fitted rectangular low-profile white shower tray and a contemporary matt black-framed sliding glass enclosure. The shower enclosure walls were tiled floor-to-ceiling in bevelled marble-effect subway tiles with neat chrome and black corner trims.
Above the vanity unit, an ambient, rounded-corner LED illuminated mirror with touch-sensor controls was hardwired flush to the wall, accented by a matching matt black dual shaver/toothbrush charger socket.
The bulky retro toilet was replaced with a modern close-coupled pan featuring a quiet soft-close seat and dual-flush cistern, perfectly aligned along a half-tiled feature wall.
The traditional white column radiator was swapped for an architectural open-sided matt black heated towel rail, mounted flush beside the entry door to save floor space while offering generous towel hanging capacity.
Eliminating awkward floor steps and uneven boxing completely transformed this bathroom into a spacious, cohesive sanctuary. The combination of marble-veined metro tiles, decorative patterned flooring, and bold matt black accents strikes the perfect balance between timeless Victorian heritage and sharp contemporary design.
