Walk-In Shower Bathroom Renovation in Manchester

This project involved a complete redesign of a dated family bathroom, replacing the old green bath, pedestal basin, patterned tiles and checkerboard flooring with a much cleaner grey contemporary bathroom. The biggest change was removing the bath and creating a generous walk-in shower area, while also improving storage, lighting and the overall use of space.

Project Brief

The original bathroom had small white wall tiles, a coloured bath and basin, an electric shower and black-and-white flooring. The room also contained an exposed service/boiler cupboard area, which made the space feel visually busy.

Although the bathroom was usable, the finishes were dated, and the layout did not make the best use of the available floor area.

Planning & Design

For this refurbishment, the priority was to make the bathroom feel more open and easier to move around.

The bath was removed completely, allowing us to dedicate one side of the room to a spacious shower. We also planned cleaner storage around the existing service area, introduced a compact vanity unit, and used large tiles to reduce visual clutter.

What we did for this project

Bath Removed & Walk-In Shower Created

The existing bath was taken out and replaced with a large walk-in shower enclosure. A fixed glass screen keeps the shower area open while maintaining a clean, minimalist appearance.

Low-Level Shower Tray & Linear Waste

A wide white shower base was installed with a linear-style drain, giving the shower a more streamlined finish than the previous bath setup.

Rainfall & Handheld Shower

The old electric shower was replaced with a modern chrome system featuring a large overhead rainfall head and separate handheld shower.

Large Grey Wall & Floor Tiles

The small patterned tiles and checkerboard flooring were replaced with large-format grey stone-effect tiles across the walls and floor. Dark grout lines add definition and give the room a sharp, contemporary finish.

Compact Vanity Unit

A dark grey vanity unit with integrated basin was installed, introducing practical storage without taking up too much floor space.

Modern WC

A new white close-coupled WC was fitted beside the vanity, creating a neat sanitaryware arrangement along one side of the bathroom.

LED Illuminated Mirror

We added an illuminated bathroom mirror above the basin, giving the vanity area its own light source as well as improving the overall look of the room.

Heated Towel Rail

A tall black heated towel radiator was installed, adding contrast against the grey tiles while providing useful towel storage and heating.

Boiler & Storage Area Tidied

The previously exposed service area was incorporated into clean white fitted cabinetry, helping hide the functional elements and making the bathroom feel considerably more finished.

The Finished Result

The difference in this bathroom is mainly about space and simplicity.

Removing the bath opened up the room and allowed us to create a much larger shower without overcrowding the bathroom. The grey tiling gives the walls and floor a consistent finish, while the dark vanity, black towel radiator, LED mirror and clear glass screen add modern contrast.

It is now a much more practical bathroom with better shower space, useful storage, improved lighting and cleaner lines throughout.
